I leaned back on my hinds, taking slow, cautionary steps as I descended down the steep trail to the beach. The end of the trail was a metre drop to the beach, obviously the result of large waves eroding the beach. I leaped down, landing neatly on the soft white sand and breaking into canter. The wintry wind whipped my mane and tail as I cantered down the beach at the water's edge. It was so quiet around here, but it smelled freshly of other horses. So where were they?
I slowed to walk again and looked up and down the beach as I neared the rocky corner. No one in sight. I picked my way over the rocks carefully, standing only on the flat ones. I wasn't known for my balance so much as my ability to charm the male race.
I had been traveling for the past few weeks, ever since I had left my previous herd. Infedality had become a problem for me and I had had to leave. Start a new life in a new land with new equines. I slowed to halt, heaving a deep sigh as I dropped to my knees, then lowered my bright bay bodice to the sand. This was supposed to be where the loner horses came to find a herd. But there was no one in sight, so I would wait right here till someone came along.

i.m.p.l.o.d.e.d Life ain'twhat it seems There was definitely a mare nearby, that's for sure. She wasn't quite in sight at the moment, he figured this must be the place where mares without herds are claimed. Doing the 'Arab Prance' he came near he' he had never really approached a mare in his life, it was odd. I'm probably making a fool of myself! Eclipse that, annoyed at himself so he just walked over normally to her, hoping she was paying attention he said to her. "Hello there, I'm Imploded, but call me Ecplipse. Who might you be?"
This wasn't too bad, he wondered what she may do, he hoped she wouldn't be some obnoxious idiot filly who plays hard-to-get. He had a sudden urge to nip her and say this mare was coming with him. She certainly is beautiful and hopefully this will all pay off. He had arrived in these lands not too long ago, this mare was unfamilier.. is she from here?
Eclipse's pelt shivered as a slight ocean breeze came through, boredom is what he felt. Nothing really has happened since my mother got killed by a wild cat. She was a fool, wanting to pick a fight with one of those to prove she was tough. As if she hadn't done that plenty of times, she even gave him a ridiculous name, he'd rather be called Eclipse than Imploded. Eclipse hoped this mare was to be nothing like is dim-wit mother. He was feeling a tad chilly, he was ready to get this over with.

A stallion appeared around the corner in the opposite direction from which I had just come. I watched the way he moved interestedly, trying to figure him out. By the way he pranced over to me, which was kinda cute, I gathered he hadn't had all that much experience with mares. He stopped a little distance from me and introduced himself as Imploded, though he prefered Eclipse.
I launched myself back to my feet and offered him a friendly expression. I could be nice when I wanted to be, after all. Hey. I'm Amulet. I replied, looking up at him from under my eyelashes in an alluring sort of way. I wondered vaguely whether he had lived in this land for long; if so, he could show me around.
So, Eclipse.. I started, flirting just a little. He wasn't bad looking, I had to admit. His coat was a golden chestnut with a tinge of red in it, and his eyes were expressive. I could see that he had suffered a little in his years. You from around here?

He shook his head. "No, I'm not from around here." He answered.
Not surprised she answered the same question he was thinking about. When he entered these lands he hadn't really seen any other horses besides Amulet.
Eclipse stepped forward and finally got a look at her. He had to think that she was attractive... very attractive but he didn't say anything about it. Not really Eclipse's "thing" to flatter other horses.
Eh, I may as well be polite. He thought to himself. "Anyway nice to meet you Amulet, would you like to join me?" He didn't really have herd-lands yet. But he could get one soon. There was no one here after all. And maybe this could possibly be where mares find herds?
Hopefully she would accept his offer. She'd be the first addition to his wild band. He didn't quite know where to go and she seemed interesting to meet, she seemed a bit flirty right now but that seems to be what all mares may do when they meet a new stallion.

Me neither. I replied, twitching my silky black tail at an irritating fly. I noticed him looking me over, pleased to see that he looked a little awed. Then he asked If I would join him. The thought of living with another after so long both excited me and scared me. I hadn't seen another equine being since I'd left the herd, weeks ago. And I'd never been one for living with a large group. I preferred just one stallion to satisfy my needs. And zero annoying marres. Who knew, this guy could turn out to be something great. If not, I could always leave him.
I guess I would like that. I gazed at him with interest. This would be fun.

Alright, so she wanted to come with him to start a herd. Maybe she could even make a great lead mare. Well, he is going to really get to know her so that would be something of interest, Eclipse never really got the chance to meet anyone before, anyway. But now it's back to the important stuff. "In which direction shall we go?" He asked her, she wasn't from around here so obviously she didn't know this place. But on this beach, this was no land for starting a herd. Eclipse wanted to find a safe place for both Amulet and himself, preferably no cautions or anything that would spook a horse. He didn't know how Amulet was about spooking but he was sure they would both spook at something once in a while. He thought a little more about this, heading North was his decision. "Maybe we should head north and see what's in store for us there, we need to go somewhere we both can cope with, mi'lady, that is not where we are right at the current moment." He was preparing to bounce off at full gallop but he forgot there was Amulet too, he started to pick up his hoofs at a brisk yet steady canter. "Are you ready to go?" he asked in his husky tone. Eclipse felt that question wasn't necessary. He took off at a slow gallop and knew that Amulet would follow with no obligations. His hooves hit the ground lightly at a good speed for now. He wanted to go fast but he did not know his new mare's paces. Oh god, now I'm being all soft on a little mare, Eclipse thought to himself. Ridiculous. His nares flared as he picked up some more speed, they were starting to head out of the beach and he started to here the crunching of leaves as he tore down a grassy area with many trees.

I shook my head slowly. Couldn't tell you. I'm new here, like I said before. We started to head off, and I followed quite closely behind him, fighting the urge to race him. That would have been fun. And I was pretty fast, so maybe I could have beaten him. He picked up speed, and I automatically rose to the challenge, swiftly switching to gallop and drawing neck and neck with him. He wanted to start a herd with me, I could tell. Unfortunately for him, it seemed I couldn't easily fall pregnant. I'd been bred many times and never once had I been with foal.

Ahh, so this mare was up for a little race against Eclipse? He started to move faster, if it's a race she would want then a race she would get. His hooves barely touched the ground like he was practically flying but of course, he wasn't going faster than the speed of sound. As a foal he thought he was the fastest horse ever but now that probably isn't true. This mare could possibly be faster than him anyway. Keeping the pace with amazing endurance and fighting the wind which ran past Eclipse that seemed to go on forever and ever. He felt a soft spot in him for something... he didn't know what or why. So you wanna race me, eh? he asked the mare, he certainly had a soft spot for her right now, he didn't think of it changing but if that did he could be very cruel and hurtful. Right now Eclipse couldn't even think of anything but showing-off and beating someone in a race.

I snorted. Haha, I want to beat you. Then I increased my speed to keep up with him, but not yet running full out. I would save that for when he was running his hardest, when we were ready to stop. Where's the finish line? I asked, a touch of cheekiness in my tone. The track ahead was long and straight. But I could see it ended about 250m away, where the track headed into the thick trees and became a thin, winding trail. I felt like jumping for joy at how good i felt; the wind in my mane and tail, my hooves pounding the ground with so much force, yet so delicately, and felt as though I could be feeling something for this stallion. It was a good thing I had been travelling these past few weeks; I was fit and toned. I had had to run from many wild, blood thirsty beasts over many different terrains. I could beat him.

"Maybe this race should end where those trees over there are." He wanted to run hard and fast. He kept his pistons moving and soon had himself galloping at full speed, his delicate head high in the air. Eclipse sped ahead of Amulet a bit, he had been going pretty fast earlier but didn't save his speed and energy for the end. He neared the end in exhaustion and didn't both looking back to see if Amulet catched up to him. There was time for her to race ahead of him any minute now but he didn't want that to happen he wanted to win.
